MANILA, Philippines – Dropbox is saying goodbye to two of its applications, informing users via the app and through email that Mailbox and Carousel will be shutting down in 2016.
In a Dropbox blogpost on December 8, the company said it would close down Mailbox on February 26. Carousel will close on March 31.
Carousel is a gallery app from Dropbox that lets users have control over every photo and video in their phone and in their Dropbox folder. Mailbox is a mobile email client that Dropbox acquired in 2013.
The Dropbox team said it would take key features from Carousel back to Dropbox, and would build new ways to communicate and collaborate on Dropbox, thanks to the experiences they've had with Mailbox.
In a separate farewell post, the Mailbox team also acknowledged that moving beyond Mailbox may be hard for many, so they've also set up guides and export tools, and also provided a timeline for the removal of specific services and the end of the development cycle for the application. – Rappler.com
