MANILA, Philippines – If you've been looking for the classic Polaroid look without the hassle of printing, Polaroid has a new camera out for you.
The company merged its instant print heritage into the digital era with the Snap, a 10-megapixel shooter that’s as slim as modern cameras with an attractive price point.
The Snap is a modern take on an instant-print camera, designed by Ammunition Studios. Ammunition also worked on Polaroid’s Zip printer and Cube camera.
Its relatively small size is thanks to a zero ink printing innovation by ZINK. It uses the company’s own special paper as film, where color crystals are embedded in every page and will be activated by heat inside the camera. It results in a high-quality 2”x3” print in under a minute. The prints are also adhesive backed so they can be stickers if so desired.
“The Polaroid Snap puts a modern twist on classic Polaroid instant cameras by combining digital camera technology with a contemporary, minimalistic design at a price point consumers would expect to pay for an analog instant camera” said Scott Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid in a September 2 statement.
The Snap has a centered lens with a magnetic cap, pop-up viewfinder and a single rainbow stripe in front, reminiscent of the Polaroid One Step. There’s a single door at the back for the ZINK paper. Up top are the control buttons, while the side houses the USB connector and the micro SD slot that can accommodate up to 32GB of storage.
It features three capture modes – color, black and white, and vintage Polaroid – in addition to the ‘Photobooth Mode’ which will take six photos in ten seconds and a self-timer. Users also have an option whether to include a border on their prints or not.
Users can also take pictures even if the camera is still printing or if the camera runs out of paper thanks to the micro SD card, then transfer it to their computer for sharing.
The Polaroid Snap will be available by the end of the year in 4 colors – black, white, red, and blue – and will retail for $99. – Rappler.com
