MANILA, Philippines – Google is taking its artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning capabilities into improving the lives of people by taking AI into new and varied use cases.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai gave a number of usage cases for Google's AI at the opening keynote for Google I/O 2018, which is ongoing.

In one case, Google-powered retina scans in India were able to help doctors predict cardiovascular risk in patients.

In another case, a developer named Tania worked with Google's GBoard team to add morse code support for the keyboard functions.

For fans of Google Photos, the company also announced a number of changes for the system, including the ability to turn a colored background on a photo black and white and to colorize a black and white photo.  Google Photos will also be introducing the ability to convert a photo of a document into a PDF file.

The Google Photos changes have not yet been dated, however.

Another big thing is a change to Gmail, called Smart Compose. Smart Compose will allow users to autocomplete sentences based on context. Smart compose for Gmail will be rolling out this month for everyone.

Additionally, Google will be introducing 6 new voices for Google Assistant. John Legend will also become a Google Assistant voice, though both these developments are coming later this year. – Rappler.com
