MANILA, Philippines – Xiaomi announced on Thursday, May 31, it was coming out with 3 variants of its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 8.
The devices are the Xiaomi Mi 8, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi 8 SE.
Powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor, the Xiaomi Mi 8 sports a 6.21-inch OLED screen from Samsung and has a notch, with the notch being the location of a 20-megapixel front-facing selfie camera. Meanwhile the rear takes advantage of a dual-12 megapixel camera setup.
The Mi 8 Explorer Edition, meanwhile, adds some extra touches to your standard Mi 8, with an in-display fingerprint sensor that is pressure sensitive and a transparent back panel.
Xiaomi is also claiming the Explorer Edition is the first Android phone to take advantage of 3D face recognition tech. This means it has an equivalent feature to Face ID on the iPhone X.
The Mi 8 SE, meanwhile is the smaller variant of the Mi 8 line, with a 5.88-inch AMOLED fullscreen display, a Snapdragon 710 processor inside, and a 12MP + 5 MP dual camera setup supporting enhanced low-light photography.
Pricing for the Mi 8 line is competitive. The Mi 8 comes in at 2,699 yuan ($421) in China. The Explorer Mi 8 Edition has a starting price of 3,699 yuan ($577). Meanwhile the Mi 8 SE comes in at 1,799 yuan ($281). – Rappler.com
