MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – At its September 9 event (September 10, Manila time) in San Francisco, Apple unveiled the latest versions of its iPhone lineup: The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
The iPhone 6S line sports an A9 chip, which Apple said is 70% faster than its predecessor, the A8, in CPU tasks, and up to 90% faster in terms of GPU tasks.
In a press release, Apple also reiterated, "The A9 chip and iOS 9 are architected together for optimal performance where it matters most, in real world usage. M9, Apple’s next-generation motion coprocessor, is embedded into A9, allowing more features to run all the time at lower power, including “Hey Siri,” without iPhone needing to be plugged in."
The iPhone 6S also uses a new second-generation Touch ID sensor.
3D Touch technology is also introduced to the iPhone 6s lineup, allowing users to have new gestures, namely Peek and Pop, to interact with the apps and content on their phone. Users can press lightly to Peek at a photo, email, web page or other content, and press a little deeper to Pop into the content itself. 3D Touch will also provide shortcuts to commonly used actions, such as messaging or take photography functions with through a press from the Home screen.
With regard to its camera, the iPhone 6S line takes advantage of a camera that will provide even better pictures. On the rear of the iPhone 6S line is a 12-megapixel iSight camera that supports 4K Video at a resolution of 3840 x 2160.
Also revealed is a new 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera and Retina Flash. Retina Flash momentarily makes the display 3 times brighter with True Tone lighting, allowing for bright selfies in low light.
A new Live Photos feature will take still photos that have one extra tweak: It will take a short space of time before and after taking the photo, creating an animated photograph that activates when a touch option is applied to it.
The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will have the same pricing as the iPhone 6 line before it, starting at $199 for a 16GB iPhone 6S up to $499 for a 128GB iPhone 6S Plus.
The first places to get the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will be Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK and the US.
