MANILA, Philippines – While the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to hammer Luzon with relentless rains, some netizens have been able to make light of the situation.
One big concern among Filipinos when it rains is the question, "May pasok ba?" (Are there classes?) For some students, the cancellation of classes – or for the working class, work – elicits a measure of joy. On the flip side, there are also those who are forced to flee their homes because of potentially disastrous circumstances. The rain-induced suspension of responsibilities has a cost.
Yet, as is customary among Filipinos, it's not impossible to find a silver lining in all of this.
On Tuesday, August 16, the hashtag "#MayPasok" trended on Twitter. Some expressed dismay that classes have resumed, but the tweets that merited social media approval in the form of likes and retweets have a lighthearted take on the matter.
