MANILA, Philippines – A partnership between the De La Salle University (DLSU) and game developer Ubisoft will bring forth a new Bachelor of Science track in the 2017-2018 school year.
In a statement Tuesday, August 30, DLSU said it launched a program for a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Major in Game Development.
DLSU showed off the team-up of its College of Computer Studies with Ubisoft at the Asia Pop Comic Convention last August 26 to 28.
The program will be housed at DLSU's Science and Technology Complex in Laguna.
Interested applicants to the program should be passionate about software development and be interested in the design and creation of games, having strong math, science, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. They must also have completed pre-calculus subjects before attending DLSU. Programming and game development experience is not necessary.
The move follows a March announcement by Ubisoft that it was setting up a new production studio in the Philippines.
DLSU President Brother Raymundo Suplido FSC said of the new course, "The university recognizes the need to integrate industry-driven skills and experience into its technology research and innovation programs. The alliance with Ubisoft will help provide this."
"Moreover," Suplido added, "this will add to the University’s globalized standards and give our students the opportunity to enrich their competencies in this field of study."
Training programs and internships will also be supported by the partnership, with Ubisoft personnel helping in co-teaching.
DLSU students, meanwhile, will be prioritized for internships at Ubisoft's upcoming Laguna facility. – Rappler.com
