MANILA, Philippines – Two Israeli teenagers were arrested on Thursday, September 8, for allegedly running a vDOS, a "booter" service that enables distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against specific targets.

DDoS attacks are attempts to make a server or some other resource unavailable by interrupting the host's services for a period of time.

In the case of vDOS, Brian Krebs of Krebs on Security explained that buyers could choose subscription options that determined how long an attack would run for. The vDOS service has coordinated over 150,000 DDoS attacks during its time.

The two alleged heads of vDOS, 18-year-olds Itay Huri and Yarden Bidani, reportedly earned about $600,000 in two years of operating vDOS, but were arrested in connection with an investigation by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

While the two were released on $10,000 bail, Israeli authorities have seized their passports and placed them under house arrest for 10 days. They are also barred from using any Internet or telecommunications equipment for 30 days. The vDOS service has also been taken offline as of September 9. – Rappler.com
