MANILA, Philippines – Cloud computing platform Amazon Web Services has expanded, setting up a new office in the Philippines. The company officially announced the opening last Thursday, May 5.
In a statement on Wednesday, May 11, Amazon said it established the local office here "to further support the rapidly growing customer base across the Philippines."
Amazon Web Services provides over 70 different services. Among these are the renting of virtual computers to run computer applications – called Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud – and the management of data via its Simple Storage Service.
Shane Owenby, Amazon Web Services managing director for Asia Pacific, said of the company's expansion, "We are pleased to increase the investment and commitment in the Philippines with the AWS Philippines office in Manila and the hiring of local talent."
He added, "We are excited to work with even more Philippines-based startups and enterprises to help them save cost, drive innovation and extend their global reach quickly, while maintaining high levels of reliability and security.” – Rappler.com
