MANILA, Philippines – Fans of the Civilization strategy game series will be pleased to know that a new installment is slated for release on October 21.

The announcement came via a new trailer on the Civilization YouTube page.

A report from The Verge added that while there would be no drastic changes to the game's formula, there will be some tweaks and additional features to the core game.

For instance, Civilization VI will place a bigger role on Cities, with cities having the potential to expand beyond a single tile, separated into specific districts.

Where you settle your city will also play a part in its development, with location-related bonuses providing an additional gameplay quirk that should make planning your civilization more enjoyable.

As lead producer Dennis Shirk explained, "When you place that first city, after you've played a few times, your mind really starts going and the gears start turning, when you're looking at the area around your city and deciding what kind of city it's going to be."

Shirk added, "You don't have room for everything, so you're going to have decisions to make."

The historical figures you play as (or against) will also get a change in the form of dynamic diplomacy.

Civilization leaders follow "a historical agenda that's associated with them, that reflects in some way who they were in history," said Andrew Garrett, lead artificial intelligence (AI) designer on the game.

The historical agendas will influence how the AI plays, as well as how certain figures will choose to interact with you depending on your personal playstyle. If you and an AI-controlled character both enjoy building wonders of the world, your relationship might be difficult since you're both racing to develop your one-of-a-kind special buildings.

Civilization V, the previous installment in the series, has sold more than 8 million copies to date.– Rappler.com
