MANILA, Philippines – Gadget maker Xiaomi may have a new gadget in its repertoire next year, as the company is reportedly considering the introduction of its first laptop product in early 2016.
A Bloomberg report cited "people with direct knowledge of the matter," saying that Xiaomi may have a notebook on sale in the first quarter, bringing new competition to Apple and Lenovo laptops.
Xiaomi has reportedly talked to Samsung Electronics to supply memory chips, with that agreement potentially extending into providing displays.
Bloomberg added that by supplying Xiaomi – the fourth largest smartphone vendor – Samsung's components business will also get a boost "as it tries to reduce reliance on providing for its own Galaxy devices."
Both Samsung and Xiaomi declined to comment in separate emails, according to the Bloomberg report. – Rappler.com
